Why We Love Her
She embodies this Love’s Gumbo affirmation!
I am loving, I am lovable, I am lovely. I give love freely. I receive love abundantly. I am the very expression of love. I deserve love and get lots of it. I know me. I like me. I am a great person. I am special, and I deserve to loved in a special way. I show my true self to the world because I’m alright.

What We Can Learn From Her
It’s never too late to get to know yourself and to be your best self!

In Her Own Words

As a 40 something I’ve found that I’m an interesting person and have lots of likes that I never looked at before. Karate, getting and staying fit, writing, and tutoring are some of the things that I have gotten into. I’ve also discovered that I have the gift of laughter. People roll on the floor when I’m talking to them; quite unsettling when I am trying to be serious. But then I guess I’ve had that all my life, I remember not feeling understood as a child and people laughing. I just didn’t put that together until now, when I’ve taken the time to analyze myself.

I’ve been a musician all of my life, and a private music teacher for 27 of those years. When I got divorced and became a single mom, I seriously started to worry about making enough income for both myself and my son. In addition to music lessons I started to tutor children. I started in elementary grades not wanting to do further than I had gone in home schooling, but then I started to branch out to teach upper grades. I now tutor sisters one in 3rd and the other in 8th grade. I also went back to school and got a certificate to tutor. I never thought I’d be back in school, but it wasn’t bad going for something unrelated to music. After getting my income on a firmer track, I needed to get serious about becoming as healthy as I could. For me, this means joining my sons karate class, so at the same time as getting fit, I could do some more bonding with him. And because karate is a great workout, but not a big cardio work out, I have joined Curves. Writing and continuing to play guitar and piano live are my creative outlets. I wrote poetry in school and have just punched my efforts up in that area.
Basically, I see this time as not a time for me to focus on loving anyone new, but to focus on loving the one person who will be with me always…ME. I love my son like nothing else, but eventually he will grow up and be living his own life. I see loving me as a bonus for my son, he gets a mom that is more in tune with her own needs and can better address his needs. And when he is grown up, he can feel secure in knowing that his mom has her interest to keep her busy. Loving yourself is the best present you can give yourself, your family and anyone that you come into contact with.
