Akanke Abdul-Khaaliq
Why We Love Her
She’s a devout Muslim who has dedicated her life to uncovering the beautiful mysteries of Islam. She’s a creative spirit who designs, studies, produces film and creates beautiful works of art. Plus, she has a warm soothing voice, she uses to do voice over artistry for commercials.
She has found love again with a devout Islamic husband after the death of her first husband.
What She Can Teach Us
To Appreciate life when and where you are. Here’s what she says about living in Saudi Arabia.
My rich and intense summer journey has ended and my new life in Saudi has begun. It’s wonderful to be reunited with my husband. As for living in Saudi…..much to anticipate….the good, the bad, the “that’s just wrong”, and the sacred. It probably deserves a blog! I love Allah, trust my life’s journey, and appreciate the incredible and countless blessings.
Where to Find Her
In Her own Words
I am an artist. As a creative woman, art and creativity are very spiritual realms for me. I spend a lot of time alone, working from home, and am always doing creative things. I’m not a photographer, but self photography and digital imaging are two of the many ways I cultivate my creativity and nurture my inner-self.
Through creativity I celebrate the gift of life, discover more of my true essence, and incisively engage in an inquisitive and playful journey towards wholeness, healing, and oneness with myself and my Creator.
I am a graphic designer, abstract painter, and former producer and host of TV and radio programs. I’m currently pursuing new creative paths in voiceover (http://www.akankevoiceover.com) and documentary filmmaking (http://www.7adinkras.com, http://www.miracleinamerica.net). I am also the Director of Communications for Muslim Alliance in North America (http://www.mana-net.org).
Moreso, I am a wife. A loving marriage is one of the highest and most beautiful forms of creative and spiritual expression. I am very thankful to Allah, Most High, that my husband, Nashid, and I enjoy the blessings that come from cultivating a wonderful friendship and marriage.
We all have a creative/spiritual side. There is an inseparable relationship between creativity and spirituality and I yearn for a fuller expression of my creative talents and always reach for spiritual ascension. But, what matters most, and is intrinsically woven into my daily existence and creativity, is the remembrance of my Lord, being pleasing to Him, and supplicating for His guidance, forgiveness, love, mercy, and protection. I have deep gratitude for the countless blessings in my life and the gifts He has generously bestowed upon me.
